Although the site is peaceful and rural we are only two miles from Matlock Town with its Supermarkets, pubs, restaurants and vibrant vintage shops across the bridge. A link to what’s on locally in Matlock Click Here.
There is also Hall Leys Park with a boating lake, playground and skate park!
Matlock also boasts a fabulous leisure centre with gym, badminton courts and 25m pool with toddler splash pool.
Just a little further Matlock Bath has Amusements, gift shops, Gulliver’s Kingdom Theme Park and the Heights of Abraham with Cable Cars, Caverns and exhibitions for those wanting a little more entertainment during their stay!
The stunning Chatsworth Estate is only a 6 mile drive over the picturesque Moors, with its splendid House and Gardens and sprawling estate teeming with sheep and deer along the riverside…not forgetting an incredible farm shop!
The market town of Bakewell is only 8 miles away and has a lively agricultural centre with livestock auctions most Mondays to coincide with the open market in the town square. There are many independent/local shops and a beautiful riverside walk with an abundance of water wildlife to see. The Monsal Trail (path of the former Midlands Railway) is great for level walking and cycling and begins just outside Bakewell. For what’s on locally in Bakewell click here.
Walking in the Peaks
There are plenty of stunning walks a short drive away with too many to mention. Our favourite is Stanage Edge just outside Hathersage, an impressive grit stone edge where rock climbing, abseiling and paragliding are enjoyed as well as the stunning views!
Entertainment and Days Out
Our nearest Cinema is Cineworld in Chesterfield.
Matlock Farm Park is on our doorstep and a fabulous day out with children!
For a great day out we are lucky to have two great nostalgic railways nearby. Within two miles we have Peak Rail and a bit further afield at Wirksworth we have The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway using heritage diesel railcars, and on selected days steam hauled services.
Crich Tramway Museum is also a great family day out with vintage tram rides, exhibitions, scenic walks and much more.
We a have a new Marks and Spencer Food Hall.
Highfield House Farm Shop and Tea Rooms do great breakfast and afternoon tea as well as a butchery selling fabulous local produce…perfect for the BBQ!
Chesterfield is our nearest large town with all the big name stores.
The huge shopping experience of Meadowhall Sheffield is only 45 minutes to Junction 34 of the M1
